  1. A familiar site at many UK airshows, the two Boeing Stearmans of the Breitling Wingwalkers team are brilliantly captured during a head-on pass. Darrell visited Dunsfold Wings & Wheels 2012 and shared a nice selection of shots from both elements of the event.

  2. On August 28th a three-ship of VC10s took off from RAF Brize Norton for flypasts at RAF Lossiemouth, RAF Leuchars, RAF Waddington, RAF Cranwell, RAF Coningsby and RAF Marham before returning to their home base for a run and break for landing. The men and women of 101 squadron were celebrating 50 years of VC10, the 95th anniversary of the squadron as well as 30 years since the VC10 K2 entered service in the air refuelling role.

  3. FIFI has been featured in last week's Pictures Of The Week selection as well as our recent Thunder Over Michigan report but who could ever grow tired of seeing the only airworthy Boeing B-29 Superfortress? Visiting the EAA Air Venture at Oshkosh, the world's largest aviation event FIFI looks stunning in some fantastic low light

  4. If you hadn't noticed yet, this week's selection is a bit warbird packed! Heritage Aviation's colourful Hunter Miss Demeanor has been joined by The Classic Aircraft Trust's stunning Meteor T7 for a lovely topside pass. Phil Walley was in the right spot at the right time to capture the event.

  5. Little Gransden is always a popular event with the UKAR members. Well organised and with a good variety of participants it's no surprise that a number of topics from this event can be found in our Airshow Photos forum. Among the stars of the show were Hardwick Warbirds' P-51's Marinell and Janie, the later is seen here just before touch down.

  6. Next, we go to St. Stephan in Switzerland where the Swiss Hunterfest took place. The Hunterverein (Hunter Association) Obersimmental always puts on a good show where the mountains provide some pretty backgrounds to photograph the immaculate Hunters against! If Patrick's shots inspire you to have a go as well; in 2013 the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday August 24th.

  7. Thunderbolts over Michigan! The TennesseeMuseum of Aviation’s pair of immaculate P-47Ds look stunning as they come in for a topside pass at the 2012 edition of Thunder over Michigan, in Willow Run. Both 'Hun Hunter XVI' and 'Wicked Wabbit' are painted in the markings of the 65th Fighter Squadron which operated in North Africa before moving to Italy. A detailed report for the show featured in last week's update.

  1. One of our many resident Polish photographers captured this striking image of the recently restored Saab Viggen. Seen here blasting off during the Bodø International Airshow in Norway, a show itself that's actually inside the Arctic Circle. Slawek said it was a fantastic event, with awesome scenery as well.

  2. Taken on the ramp at Kalamazoo, Michigan. Peter was visiting the “Air Zoo” museum. The world's only airworthy Boeing B-29 Superfortress “FiFi” of the Commemorative Air Force had arrived that morning. Peter was able to have an external and internal tour of the aircraft by giving a small donation. It was a particularly poignant experience as the date (6th August) was exactly 67 years to the day that the first ever atomic bomb was dropped in anger, over Hiroshima, from a B-29.

  3. We're treated to seeing lots of night time photos on UKAR. In this image, taken at the PhotoFlying Days at Malle Zoersel Airfield, Belguim, Pim has captured the Red Bull operated Vought F4U Corsair. The organisers wet the tarmac on the taxiway where the aircraft was parked to allow the photographers to benefit from the reflections in the water.

  4. Continuing UKAR's increasing reputation of bringing unique aviation images from around the world, next up is the 100 Years of Military Aviation event at Escuela de Aviacion Militar at Cordoba city, Argentina. A total of 76 aircraft took part in the centenary celebrations. Reinaldo has captured a formation of four Lockheed Martin A-4AR Fightinghawk's at the event.

  5. Another image from the Photo Flying Days at Zoersel event, albeit this time an air-to-air photo. From the ramp of the Skyvan camera ship, Mark has captured the Historic Aircraft Collection's marvellous MkV Spitfire, trailed by their Mk?? Hurricane. One being Historic Aircraft Collection's Mk.Vb BM597 (G-MKVB) and flown by Charlie Brown.

  6. Michael was luckily enough to spend the week at Anotalian Eagle 2012-2 at Konya, "TRAIN AS U FIGHT" Exercise in Turkey. In this photo the mighty Phantom is in the process of rotating during takeoff. Most aircraft flew two sorties throughout the duration of the Exercise. Michael's thread on UKAR is well worth checking out.

  7. Peter booked a flight with the historical association of "Fokker Four" which flies 4 old Fokker S.11 Instructor airplanes. Booking these flights helps them to keep these nice airplanes in the skies and it provides an unique opportunity for some air-to-air photography. The picture is while flying overhead the Dutch city of Lelystad.

  1. Don't you love it when a good plan comes together? Rather than go with the flow and set up base on the seafront for Eastbourne's airshow, Martin ventured up to Beachy Head, where he caught this beautiful topside of XH558 running in for its display. Marvellous stuff!

  2. If you need a bit of cheering up, there's nothing like the sight of an Su-25 or two...or five to brighten your day (as long as its not loaded to the gunwales and trying to kill you). Hans visited the mecca for Eastern Bloc hardware that is Zhukovsky for the celebration of 100 years of the Russian Air Force. Check out his thread for some wonderful images of some wonderful machines.

  3. Another shot from Zhukovsky, this time of the curious-looking but mighty impressive Ka-52 'Alligator'. Some Alligator trivia for you: It is the only helicopter (along with its Ka-50 stablemate) in service with an ejection system. The rotors are blasted out of the way first, in case you were wondering...!

    Canon EOS 1D MkIV + Canon EF 500mm ƒ4 L IS lens

  4. The penultimate photo from this week's quartet of Zhukovsky photographs is this imposing image of one of no less that four FLYING Tu-160s at the show. Geoff certainly has an eye for the artistic shot, so have a look at more excellent photography in his thread.

Canon EOS 1D MkIII + Canon EF 100-400mm L IS lens

  5. Flares are still in vogue in Moscow! Closing our 100 Years of the Russian Air Force selection is this excellently-times photo of the Lipetsk-based Russian Falcons pulling up and releasing flares into the evening sky as they end their display routine.

    Image © Mark Meades
Canon EOS 50D + Canon EF 100-400mm L IS lens

  6. A familiar aeroplane in a somewhat less familiar paint scheme - this RSAF Tornado was, with seven others, taking part in Anotalian Eaglee 2012-2 alonside the Turkish, Pakistani, UAE, Italian and Jordanian Air Forces. Kev was granted on-base access, which he made excellent use of, coming away with some great images.

    Nikon D300 + Nikkor 70-200mm ƒ2.8 VR lens

  7. Our final shot brings us back to jolly old England, to a time where the RAF was large, sunny days plentiful, and health and safety rather lax. Adrian brings us some photographs from the Bristol Air Day of 1966, and we were rather taken by this beautiful (?) Blackburn Beverly, resplendent in camouflage for the first time. Put on your rose-tints and have a look through the thread - just wait for the last image in his selection!

  1. Topping the bill this week is this photo featuring no less than three different types of front line aircraft of the Russian Air Force. Flankers, Frogfoots and Fulcrums are seen rehearsing a special formation flypast to mark the 100th anniversary of Russian aviation.

  2. We at UKAR love the legendary P-51 Mustang and the F-22 Raptor so this photo is ideal. Seen at the Robins AFB Show held in April this year the mighty F-22 Raptor flies in formation with TF-51D "Crazy Horse" as part of the USAF Heritage Flight.

  3. Mark Leith ventured to RAF Leuchars and was rewarded with this image depicting a Typhoon from 6 Squadron on final approach to airfield silhouetted against a typically cloudy summer sky.

  4. No it's not a Mirage, there really are two of them! Carl Brent visited Orange Air Base in France and bagged this shot of the only pairs take off during the week.

  5. Seen in one of the hangars at RAF Lakenheath during a recent base tour is this F-15E Strike Eagle of the 494th FS, 48th FW.

  6. The Thunder of Michigan Air Show had a tremendous line up this year. Sean Kelly braved the heat and was rewarded with a superb set of photos from the show. This shot of three Super Hornets sitting on the ramp in the early morning was our pick of the bunch.

  7. Hunter F.2 WN904 was recently moved to her new home at Sywell from her previous home at Waterbeach. Damien Burke dodged the showers to bag this photo of the Hunter being transported to her new home along the A14.
