The Vought F4U Corsair

Once again, we've teamed up with our associates at SAM Publications to give you a chance to claim one of three copies from the latest release in their 'Aviation Data File' series.

The Vought F4U Corsair is the subject for Volume 18 of the range and covers the lifespan of the type, from the intitial design brief and prototypes through to each and every variant to see service with the US Navy and foreign air arms.

In all the book is split over ten chapters, nine of which are dedicated to the major variants with the tenth focussed entirely on modelling the F4U. Each reference chapter is fully illustrated with period photographs to show the aircraft as they were in service, many of them in colour, and key details and differences are annotated in the text and captions to make this a comprehensive reference.

As with other titles we've reviewed from this series, there's also a large number of full colour side profiles to illustrate the variations in colour schemes and squadron markings of the Corsair in active service, and detailed appendices offer more modelling references, looking at the available kits and after market parts, as well as fold out line drawings.

The quality of the book is excellent throughout, with thick pages and superb photographic reproductions making this an essential volume for any aviation enthisuast, and in particular for model makers, as this book has a greater emhpasis towards that market than the Harrier title we reviewed last year, for example.

Retailing for around £20, this book is available at hobby shops, book stores or direct from the SAM Publications website.
